What does "LARIMAR SONORA" mean?
Larimar is a rare blue gemstone variety of pectolite found exclusively in the Dominican Republic. Its unique white and blue ocean-like patterns come from copper impurities trapped inside volcanic rock.
A Sonora gemstone—most commonly known as Sonora Sunrise or Sonora Sunset—is a striking, rare semi-precious stone composed of a natural mixture of bright red cuprite and turquoise-blue/green chrysocolla, often accented with bands of black iron oxide (tenorite)
These gemstones and colors inspired the naming of our company, where our art is inspired by natural landscapes and vibrant colors related to Latin American destinations and where the sun meets the sky and the sea.
Meet the Owner and Primary Artist
(Johannes) James P. Johnson, PhD
With over 20 years of experience in digital media, illustration, photo-manipulation, artwork and photography, Dr. JJ creates and teaches digital media, photography/videography and artwork with a unique lens as both a PhD-trained scientist (Texas A&M University + University of Washington) and a former alumnus of the Pratt Institute of Art & Design in Brooklyn, NYC (2008 - Graphic Design PreCollege Program). He is also well-equipped to consult in creative graphic and interior design (one of Pratt's primary strength areas) consulting.
